Though this comic got it’s start in Grade 6, the Queer Patrol, obviously, showed up when I came out in University.
The lean blond with the barbed-wire is Sam Sabino a.k.a. Sheppard’s Scarecrow, a Robin-like character who was kicked out of home for being gay. While trying to survive on the streets, he hears of Matthew Sheppard’s death, gay-bashed and left hanging on a barbed-wire fence. A deputy later said he mistook the small figure for a scarecrow, the only place on his face clean of blood was where there had been tears.
Shunned from his family and abused on the street, Sam takes the image of Sheppard’s final repose as his own symbol, and gets busy oppressing his oppressors.
Never got to do much with this character, and I wish I’d had a chance to use him in something less silly.
My type – and the ones I’d date, if so inclined – say shit when they have a mouthful, and if you slipped a SubMachine gun or battle axe in their hands, they’d look right outta central casting for an action movie.
A Tom-Boy with curves..You know who you are…
