I grew up in Alberta’s Chuckwagon circuit (think Nascar crossed with a stagecoach race, and you have a general idea), and as a kid, was always told in a joking way, “You kids look out for Teech, he likes young boys”.

He didn’t of course, he was just a gay middle-aged stable manager for one of the drivers, outed when the driver’s wife picked up teech’s mail, and found brown-paper wrapped gay porn. To the chuckwagon community’s credit, Teech was never exiled or shunned – quite a thing if you consider this was the late-70′s. He’d proven himself a good and trustworthy worker, had been around for years, and that was that.

Teech’s backstory doesn’t belong to the real man, but to a close friend, whose experience in coming out was appalling and fuuny-sad all at once.
