These are true stories inserted into imaginary lives.
When we were doing research for a historical graphic novel about the Downtown East Side, I spoke to social workers, sex workers and residents from that area. Some that came out the other side, some that are still there.
The stories told about Meth and the drug life were incredibly compelling. They were half survival stories, half cautionary tales. Really felt compelled to tell them, and I hope to pass them on in the same “Yeah, I know it’s a crazy story, but don’t think it couldn’t happen to you” manner.
