My Mom is a remarkable woman who used to complicate her life unnecessarily in the same way a lot of women from her generation did: by trying to live up to an impossible ideal of what a mother, farm wife, and member of a large extended family should be.    Well, having one son that was gay, and another that was the ultimate Black Sheep (I’m the gay one) cured my Mom of always “worrying about what the neighbors would think”.
She realizes now that she never had to – her and my Dad gave us a great life and a remarkable childhood.   Still, the old fashioned parts of Mom remain as cute as hell.  She’s been a good sport and reads the comics I show her, but the “tsk tsk” noise she still sometimes makes is straight-up 1964.
You’re the best, Mama.
